You can apply for Same-Sex Partner visa entry clearance online if you are a same-sex partner of a British citizen or settled person and resident outside the UK. If the applicant meets the requirements for entry clearance as a same-sex partner of the British Citizen or settled person, he/she will be granted entry clearance for an initial period not exceeding 33 months, and subject to a condition of no recourse to the public funds.

An application for same-sex partner visa entry clearance from outside the UK is made online. Upon completion and submission of the online form for same-sex partner visa entry clearance UK, the same-sex partner visa entry clearance fee and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is paid online.

All the supporting documents in support of the same-sex partner visa application are then uploaded online. An appointment is then booked with the UK visa Application Centre for the enrolment of biometrics and submission of the Applicant's passport at the designated UK visa application centre in the country of residence of the applicant.

What are the requirements to apply for a Same-Sex Partner visa?

The applicant applying for entry clearance as a same-sex partner of a British Citizen or a person settled person must meet the following requirements:

  • Suitability criteria as set out in Appendix FM to the Immigration Rules;
  • Must have been living together with the UK sponsor for at least 2 years in a relationship akin to civil partnership or marriage;
  • Genuine and subsisting relationship as a same-sex partner of a person present and settled in the UK;
  • Must meet the financial requirements;
  • Adequate accommodation for the applicant and the UK sponsor to be accommodated in the UK without recourse to public funds;
  • English language requirement to show that the applicant has English proficiency at CEFR level A1 as required by the UK Immigration Rules.

New minimum income requirement

To be eligible for a Partner / Spouse visa UK, you and your partner must meet the minimum income requirement, which is currently set at £29,000 gross per year. This minimum income requirement rose from £18,600 to £29,000 on 11 April 2024.
